1810 From "Soe longe as there comes no women" by W. Gordon Handcock: "... Henry BATSON of Wim bourn Minister, aged 71 years in 1810, was 9 years old [Henry born abt 1738] when his fathe r first took him to Newfoundland, and George Short, born in Hooke, Dorset, but examined at Wi mbourn in 1762, testified he went to sea first in service to 'Bernard Batson', planter then r esident in Newfoundland'.
