ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST BURIALS / 1812 - 1824 Lionel CHANCEY 71 yrs July 4 1822 Coroner & Clerk of the Peace From Cullompton, Devon , married Elizabeth Unknown. Per newspaper died June 30th. Lionel's first child was born in 1782. Thomas married for the first time on 20 January 1798. One source has Thomas dying at the ag e of 39 in 1810 (this is actually two years after his actual death) but suggests he was bor n around 1770 (therefore a child when he arrived in Newfoundland). Lionel apparently died in 1822, at the age of 74, thus giving him a birth year of 1748. It ma y be that Lionel and Thomas were father and son rather than brothers, but this has not been e stablished. I give & bequeath unto Lionel Chancey (as a compensation for sundry services which he has don e for me, and as a mark of my regard for him) Mr. Matthew Henry's Annotations on the Bible i n Six Volumes.
